SO HOW TO CHOOSE?
Your dog loves to chew wood
Everything goes... branches in the garden, logs from the fireplace, in short, your dog loves wood, but you're afraid he'll hurt himself with splinters.
For him, there is olive wood or tree root, slow-growing wood species that offer extremely resistant plant solutions that do not splinter.
Olive wood is more of a throwing toy that your dog can chew.
Tree root is a sturdy chew bone
These solutions remain wood and make chips, but do not splinter.
You know a little about deer antler, but you've never tried it?
Your dog is rather greedy, you're not sure if he'd let off steam on wood?
Depending on your dog's stamina, choose whole deer antler (fierce chewer), fallow deer antler (tenacious chewer), sliced deer antler, or cheese sticks (moderate chewer).
If you are unsure what type of chewer your dog is, refer to the article
Generally speaking, it is best to choose chews that are not too complicated to start with and gradually increase the difficulty unless your dog is a destructive dog.
Have you tried deer antler, but the test was inconclusive?
Deer antler is extremely robust, odorless, and seems uninteresting to our eyes.
The dog, on the other hand, smells that it comes from the animal and will be attracted by the smell of the dry marrow, provided of course that:
- The wood is of quality
- The marrow is tasty.
- The strength of the deer antler should be adapted to your dog's abilities.
- The size should be adapted to his build.
If your dog has lost interest in the wood you bought him, it may be for one of these reasons:
- Antler too hard for him to chew. Not all dogs are able to chew whole deer antlers, for example.
- Poor quality wood, crumbly pith, colorless, odorless
- Wood too small, he didn't know how to hold it
- Wood too big, no jaw range to chew it
- Your dog loves wood, but not bone
- Your dog is greedy, he likes to eat, not chew
